Decentralisation lessons for parties

Faced with the electorate’s decisive rejection of their desperate bid to regain lost ground in Uttar Pradesh, the national leaders of the Congress and the BJP have come out with similar trite explanations.  Unlike elections for Parliament, the electorate is guided by local considerations in the State Assembly elections, where state specific parties are perceived to be more capable of responding to regional aspirations and they are nearer the people, they have said.
