The past haunts Bengal Marxists

The ‘Model T’ was a metaphor for affordability on the one hand and an entirely new way of making cars on the other; it represented a leap from the past into a future that beckoned with endless possibilities. The ‘Nano’ seems to have become a metaphor too; of “chance wasted” as Mr Ratan Tata, chairman of Tata Motors, admitted, not just for his company and his vision, but for West Bengal as well. The transformation it promised of economic regeneration evaporated when Tata Motors moved to Gujarat from West Bengal.
