In Kerala, bypoll can make or break

Minister T M Jacob’s death has left the Kerala government with a majority of three in the Assembly — 71 to 68 — making it imperative for the UDF not only to win the by-election six months on, but also to keep all its constituents happy. The Civil Supplies Minister, the only Kerala Congress (Jacob) member in the House, represented Piravom constituency in Ernakulam district. A defeat in the bypoll can turn out to be make or break, unless all the allies stick together.
