Another blow to UPA’s dwindling credibility

The disclosure of an 11-page note sent by a finance ministry official in March this year to the Prime Minister’s Office about 2G spectrum pricing has set off a firestorm of controversy. While Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee refused to comment on it on the plea that matter was before the Supreme Court, the BJP claimed that it implicated Union home minister P Chidambaram — who was the Union finance minister at the relevant period — and demanded his resignation. Union law minister Salman Khurshid, on the other hand, dismissed it as it came from “a junior official in the ministry” and maintained that the “inferences drawn from the brief are unacceptable”.
