Will it be more of the same in Nepal?
As deputy chief of the Maoist party Baburam Bhattarai became the latest politician to walk through Nepal’s revolving door of Prime Ministers, he also ushered in a second phase of Maoist rule in the fledgling democracy. As is typical of Nepali politics, this development signifies developments at multiple levels: First, the country has come full circle since 2007 when the monarchy was abolished and Maoist supremo Pushpa Kamal Dahal took oath of office as Prime Minister after his party won the largest number of seats in the 2008 interim election; and, second, nothing has changed between then and now as far as politics is concerned.
