Had there been a furtive holding of breath since the new chief minister came into her own? But Mamata Banerjee had disappointed her critics so far by not putting a foot wrong. So far. When she did take a wrong step, though, she took a humongously big one. And that too over the issue of renaming the state, almost as absurd as Al Capone finally being arrested for income tax evasion. Not that choosing Paschimbanga as the only name for the state and dropping West Bengal will immediately lose her an election. But those who suspect that Ms Banerjee is more effective in agitation than in governance will find some cud to chew on.
