Democracy mauled

The Government has grievously erred by arresting Anna Hazare and senior members of his team in order to prevent them from protesting against the official version of the Lok Pal Bill which they insist is inadequate to combat corruption. Irrespective of the Government’s views on the alternative Bill proposed by Anna Hazare, it cannot prevent legitimate protest so long as it is peaceful and orderly.
