BJP’s knotty coalition bind

Media interviews being used by BJP functionaries to advocate Narendra Modi's candidature for prime ministership will end fairly soon. Irrespective of intentions, such off-the-cuff pronouncements cannot just go on. No party can be hustled into a call, even if it is for its own good. A structured and institutional decision on the Modi choice has to be made, not one driven by prime-time clamour. Having said this, it would be prudent to examine the contours of that choice.
