Cong bites mining dust in Goa
The BJP returned to power in Goa after seven years as the ruling Congress was reduced to a single digit in the 40-member Assembly. The BJP won 21 seats while its ally Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) bagged three seats. The Congress won nine seats, Goa Vikas Party (GVP) two and Independents five. The votes were counted at two centres — Panaji and Margao — and the results were announced by afternoon. The state had reported a 83 per cent voter turnout on March 3, which observers had attributed to strong anti-incumbency.
