Budget delay stokes snap poll fears
The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government formally signalled that the Union budget for 2012-13 will be postponed till after the elections to five state assemblies are concluded in early March, triggering speculation among analysts that the government is not ruling out a snap poll. The national budget is typically presented on the last working day of February. This year being a leap year, it was, going by convention, to be presented on 29 February.
