Ballot power: Impressive turnouts suggest voters engaged with the democratic process

Completion of six of the nine-phased staggered general elections has seen impressive voter turnout. By the time voters across 14 states exercised their suffrage on April 24, the Election Commission (EC) recorded a remarkably healthy 64% average participation in the polls, almost six percentage points higher than the figure in 2009.
