Rainbow coalition in TN: Will its magic work?

Rivals of the Bharatiya Janata Party may seek to downplay the alliance that the party has struck in Tamil Nadu with as many as five regional outfits ahead of the Lok Sabha election, on the ground that none of these entities  has a major base across the State. While it may be true that neither the DMDK nor the MDMK nor the PMK nor the IJK nor the KMDK has a base spread equally significantly throughout Tamil Nadu, each of these parties, which has tied up with the BJP and is now part of the National Democratic Alliance, is influential in large pockets of the State.
