Farmers want to vote with their feet

A recent study conducted by the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS) observes that over 60% of Indian farmers prefer to move to cities in search of alternative employment opportunities. Not surprisingly, as the survey indicates, the mood in favour of migration out of villages has come in the wake of decreasing returns from agriculture.
