To breast the tape in Lok Sabha elections, NDA must win allies in the south
Pre-poll surveys project Narendra Modi and BJP to be on a roll. With one caveat, though: it is not in the picture in a majority of contests in the four southern states. With these states — Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala — sending 129 MPs to Lok Sabha, the absence of a toe-hold here can badly hurt. Except in Karnataka, where the party won 19 seats in 2009, BJP has so far failed to register its presence in the rest of south India.
