Govt stirs quota pot to woo Muslims

With elections less than a year away in some key states, the UPA government has decided to stir up the politically sensitive issue of education and job reservations for Muslims. After dithering over its promise of providing quotas for Muslims in government jobs and education for well over seven years, the government on Thursday asserted that the "consultation" process over the subject was over. The Union home ministry is set to submit a "concrete proposal" for minority reservation soon, Union Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said.
