It was a quiet Beijing that absorbed the sight of Shinzo Abe, pacifist Japan's nationalist PM reviewing India's annual celebration of hard and soft power. Chinese diplomats the world over are in the middle of a global battle of op-ed articles with Japan, but have been careful to keep India out of the war of words, and that is significant.
