Media analysts will have to eat their words

Media commentators who have been predicting a defeat for the BJP under the ‘divisive’ leadership of Narendra Modi, are scurrying for cover after the results of recent poll surveys. The findings of these exercises not just show a sharp and steady rise for the BJP but also indicate a worst-ever performance by the Congress. Some of these analysts have, admittedly, gamely accepted the trend as not just real but also irreversible; if anything, the BJP's performance could turn out to be better than what is being projected as the party gains further traction riding on the Modi factor as the Lok Sabha election draws near.
