The quest for manufacturing jobs

In India’s bleak macroeconomic scenario two troublesome features stand out: The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government’s inability to create quality jobs and its inability to control inflation. In his interaction with journalists last week, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh openly admitted the first problem. His prognosis was weak and in stark contrast to the decisiveness that he displayed in 1991.
