SC order could pave way for investigations against the Prime Minister

The Supreme Court on Tuesday armed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) with the power to investigate high-ranking administrative officials without prior government clearance in cases being monitored by it. There’s some confusion as to whether the ruling, delivered in the context of the apex court’s oversight of the CBI’s probe into alleged irregularities in coal block allocations, covers the Prime Minister and members of the Union cabinet.
