Deregulate diesel prices, now

The Centre needs to show some spunk and promptly decontrol diesel prices to arrest the unwarranted consumption subsidies on fuel that are anyway unbudgeted, given the sharp over 20% depreciation of the rupee. It is vital to correct the retail mispricing of diesel to restore macroeconomic balance, better allocate resources and boost investment.
