Panel calls for sweeping changes in FII FDI rules

A committee headed by economic affairs secretary Arvind Mayaram has recommended doing away with separate ceilings for foreign institutional investment (FII) in many sectors, suggesting instead composite caps for all sectors, including defence and multi-brand retail, where only a foreign direct investment (FDI) cap is prescribed.
