Airtel could be fined Rs 650 cr
Communications Minister Kapil Sibal has approved a telecom department proposal to slap a Rs 650-crore penalty on India's largest mobile phone company, Bharti Airtel, for providing subscriber local dialling (SLD) services in 13 regions between 2003 and 2005. SLD is a facility that allows roaming customers to be on the local network and thereby avoid paying roaming and STD charges.
