CIL-NTPC tussle over fuel sparks high tension for power sector
Last month, two power stations of NTPC – Farakka and Kahalgaon – stared at the prospect of shutting operations, an eventuality that could have plunged large parts of eastern and northern India into darkness. The reason: Coal India subsidiary Eastern Coalfields (ECL) stopped supply of coal to these two projects as its operator NTPC refused to pay for the fuel that came loaded with “stones and rocks and other impurities.”
