Defence preparedness bears brunt of scams
A slew of scams has left the armed forces bereft of much-needed sophisticated weapons and hampered their operational preparedness. The fact sheet is alarming. India is yet to buy long-range artillery guns for the last 25 years since the Bofors scam surfaced in 1987. A proposal for acquiring these artillery guns was mooted three years ago and the Defence Ministry pegged it at Rs 20,000 crore. But the proposal has not made any headway.
