CAG exposes government's debt relief swindle

In February 2008, the UPA-I announced its biggest sop for farmers, a `52,275.5 crore farm loan waiver for 3.5 crore small and marginal farmers. Dubbed as the agricultural debt waiver and debt relief scheme, the populist measure was one of the major factors that had propelled UPA to a second term in power.
