Centre usurped power to allot coal blocks: SC

The Supreme Court on Thursday placed the Centre on a sticky wicket in the coal scam by claiming that the existing law did not give a legal right to the Union Government for coal blocks’ allocation. The court also questioned how a screening committee could be vested with the power to allocate coal blocks in the absence of any related legal provision.
