Denationalise coal mining to bring tariffs down
CAG has claimed that private sector players who have been allotted mines for captive usage will get undue benefits of 1,86,000 crore. The government has claimed the current allocation process was necessary to maintain low costs of coal and, eventually, low power tariffs. There have even been extreme demands for eliminating private sector involvement from coal mining and retaining coal mining as an exclusive preserve of the public sector.
