EGoM signals relief for Airtel, Vodafone, Idea
In a big respite to GSM telecom companies, the Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) has allowed operators to retain 2.5 Mhz in the 900 Mhz spectrum band through an administrative allotment by paying an auction-determined price. The EGoM, headed by finance minister P Chidambaram, took the decision based on the recommendation of the Department of Telecommunications. The decision will travel to the Cabinet for final approval but the association of operators representing Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular, have opposed it.
