Chhattisgarh power boom that never was
From his room in a modest district administration building in Raigarh, Amar Vikas Kerkatta is watching a boom die. Between 2001 and 2010, as many as 23 thermal power plants—that run on coal—decided to base themselves in this district in mid-eastern Chhattisgarh. But now, Kerketta, a manager at the Raigarh District Trade and Industry Office, thinks only four to six plants will come up.
