A better policy for land
It is time to raise some important issues related to the impending legislation on the Land Acquisition Bill. Land acquisition is not quite kosher in India, even though it is clear that higher growth requires increasing amounts of land being shifted to nonagricultural purposes. There is some squeamishness with respect to land acquisition in India, and it increases when fertile, irrigated land is involved. Acquisition of fertile land could be discussed from the point of view of India's food security, point of view of the buyers and sellers of land.
