Rural development minister Jairam Ramesh yet again created a furore of sorts on Thursday when he said women in India prefer owning a mobile phone over a toilet. 'Women make demands for mobile phones, not for toilets. That is the mindset we have,' the minister said at the launch of a report on meeting millennium development goals, prepared by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
