Civil aviation minister Ajit Singh says he would soon seek Cabinet nod for foreign carriers to acquire up to 49% equity stake in domestic airlines. The move needs to be wholeheartedly welcomed. It would enable capital infusion into cash-strapped, heavily leveraged domestic carriers, and boost connectivity in the bargain. The liberalisation of foreign direct investment (FDI) in aviation clearly brooks no delay.
