Pranab ‘assured’ Army Chief of a face-saving exit

Barely a week before he moved the Supreme Court on his date of birth controversy, Army Chief Gen. V K Singh is said to have been “assured” by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee that the government was working out a way to accept his claim on the condition that he would retire in May this year.
