A day after disowning Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid’s promise of increasing the reservation for minorities to nine per cent, the Congress did a U-turn saying it is considering enhancing the minority reservation in its election manifesto for Uttar Pradesh. Its fear of a backlash from the Other Backward Classes (OBC), from whose 27 per cent quota the sub-quota is being carved out, had led to its distancing from Khurshid’s remarks.
