Govt will uphold EC’s autonomy, Manmohan replies to Quraishi

The government has sought to dispel the notion of a tussle between the Election Commission and the government in the backdrop of Law and Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid’s remarks on sub-quota for backward class minorities attracting the EC’s ire. Sources on Friday said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had recently written to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) S Y Quraishi that the government was committed to upholding the constitutional autonomy to the Election Commission.
