UP parties' move bails out govt
The walkout by Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party during the vote on the Lokpal and Lokayukta Bill demonstrates the continued clout of the Centre over the regional outfits, who have time and again bailed UPA out of tough situations in Parliament. Despite the approach of the Uttar Pradesh election where SP and BSP view the Congress as a serious rival, the two regional parties facilitated in providing Congress a comfortable victory over the Lokpal Bill and reasons are seen to lie in the cases the outfits continue to face. Cases dealing with the Taj corridor and disproportionate assets have been the Achilles heel for BSP and SP leaders.
