Under attack, Chidambaram gets PM praise

Under attack from the Opposition, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram received some much-needed support from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, with the latter praising the “enlightened leadership” and capability of his Cabinet colleague in front of his home crowd in Sivaganga on Monday. Chidambaram is facing flak from Opposition parties and his critics alike over charges that he, as the then Union Finance Minister, had played a role in the 2G spectrum scam, and that he misused his powers as the Home Minister to help a former client. He has denied the allegations.
