BJP calls quota for Muslims a poll stunt
The government's proposal to carve out a sub-quota for minorities within the 27% reservation for OBCs drew sharp reactions from the opposition with the BJP rejecting it outright and the CPM demanding that the quantum be 10% and not 4.5% as suggested by the government. The BJP on Friday dubbed it a pre-poll stunt, and said religion-based reservation would divide the country. "The decision for a quota within quota is wrong. We are against religion-based quotas. The backward castes should get social justice but such religion-based quotas are not correct for social equality," party leader Ananth Kumar said.
