Lokpal battlelines drawn again

The government has kept the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) completely out of the purview of the Lokpal, setting the stage for a fresh round of confrontation with Team Anna. The new Lokpal Bill, which was cleared by the Cabinet this evening, gives the proposed ombudsman superintendence only over cases that it refers to the CBI. The CBI would have to finish investigations in these cases within 180 days.
