Omar banks on Rahul’s support
Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chose December 5, the 106th birth anniversary of his grandfather Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah, to sing paeans in favour of the Nehru-Gandhi family. He did not naturally refer to the chapters in history where his grandfather was at loggerheads with New Delhi, but recounted Sheikh’s friendly relationship with Jawaharlal Nehru. He deliberately chose to forget Nehru’s directive to dethrone Sheikh Abdullah on August 9, 1953, leading to the latter’s 11-year incarceration and 22 years of political wilderness.
