Staring down the barrel

Being the mother of a Naxalite is not an easy situation to be in. It is especially so when the son has just been killed. And when the other son is also a Naxalite, the mother's predicament is unimaginably complex. For Madhuramma, mother of slain Naxal leader Mallojula Koteswara Rao alias Kishenji, life has been a constant struggle with fear. On the one hand, she feared for not one, but two lives. On the other, whenever the Naxals carried out an attack or killed someone, she shuddered. The modest family home on Brahmin Street at Pedapalli in Karimnagar district was blasted twice (obviously by the police) in retaliation for Naxal attacks.
