Lokpal draft overlooks Aug resolution
The parliamentary panel on Lokpal has envisaged setting up a nine-member anti-corruption ombudsman with constitutional status that will have supervisory powers over its investigating and prosecuting authority but will not include within its ambit redressal of public grievances and lower bureaucracy. The committee has included only one provision from the three conditions that were part of the sense of the House passed in Parliament in August, that is the establishment of Lokayuktas in states. The standing committee has recommended establishing Lokayukatas in states and removal of sanction of prosecution of public servants including political representatives and officers.
