Sibal vows to clean up the Web but gets trapped in one

Kicking off a storm over his plan to monitor and regulate online content, Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology Kapil Sibal today said the government will frame rules that ensure “blasphemous” material is removed from the internet. At a hurriedly convened press conference at his residence today, Sibal said: “I suggested that these platforms (Facebook, Google, Yahoo and Microsoft) should evolve a mechanism on their own to ensure that such content is removed as soon as they get to know of it... I told them this cannot go on.
