UPA buys time on possible FDI rollback

After remaining sharply divided over the Cabinet’s decision to clear the FDI in multi-brand retail trade, the Government now seems to be split over the period till which the decision should be put on hold. UPA ally Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had on Saturday announced that Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee told her that the policy decision on FDI had been “suspended” till consensus was evolved over the issue.
