Reverse gear: Panel takes most babus out of Lokpal

In a stunning volte-face, the parliamentary panel on Lokpal on Thursday decided to exclude lower bureaucracy from the ambit of the anti-corruption law. Just 24 hours earlier, the members had unanimously decided to include 57 lakh Group C government employees. The committee has also gone back on its decision to alter the process for appointment of CBI director.
