CAG seeks powers to audit all govt spend

Unfazed by attacks from the government and the ruling party, comptroller and auditor general Vinod Rai used the occasion of the CAG's 150th year celebrations on Wednesday to urge the government to give the federal auditor powers to audit the entire Plan expenditure. At present, only 50% of the total Plan expenditure is under CAG review, many of the government's social sector spending skip government audit and are not available for any parliamentary scrutiny.
