Assembly elections: It's all about the economy this time
The conventional voting trends driven by caste and religion seems to be changing now, with voters and leaders alike shifting their focus to a development-based agenda. And the swing is working in the BJP's favour, according to a study by economist Surjeet Bhalla's Oxus Research. Reaffirming the conclusions of the various exit polls that have predicted a BJP sweep in the recent Assembly elections in four states, the study also sets forth to explain how the current crop of politicians is increasingly depending on performance, as opposed to caste and community based politics.
