When talk is cheap
Despite being the world's largest democracy, India's embarrassingly awful record on freedom of expression is plain to see. Salman Rushdie was the first celebrated casualty of the Indian State's repressiveness (in the end, the Indian State must take responsibility for what elapses within its borders), of its refusal to abide by the tenets of its own constitution; as I write this, he's also its latest casualty.
