Republic of fear

There's uncanny similarity, and some differences, between events playing out in India and Pakistan. Mansoor Ijaz, the Pakistani-American businessman at the centre of the 'memogate' controversy, has stated his inability to come to Pakistan and testify before a judicial commission, because the government refuses to guarantee his security. Likewise, Salman Rushdie couldn't make it to the Jaipur Literature Festival. It's at this point that similarities end and differences begin.
