Rushdie subtext: Bullying, censorship and cowardice?

The manufactured controversy over Salman Rushdie's presence at the Jaipur Literature Festival has elicited widespread reactions, ranging from concern over security to outrage over civil liberties. Whether or not India's most beloved writer shows up is no longer the point. People are more disturbed that a small group can threaten freedom of expression in the world's largest democracy and that the government's response can be so effete.
